A starry starry night

Many years ago, on a starry starry night
In a house
On the cliffs of La Jolla
I met the rarest and most noble of beings.
In a living room with blue carpet
One wall windows to the Pacific,
I wondered
"Why is the room turning gold?"
I kept coming back to find out.
And besides,
He made me laugh.

"Eternity does everything perfectly"
I heard him say so many times.

It's been many years
Since I last saw him.
"Eternity does everything perfectly"
Keeps ringing in my ears.
How hard it is to grasp this;
I always thought I would see him again
Someday.

My most treasured possession:
The love and gratitude woven into my heart
For the years, days, hours, minutes,
The moments
I spent with Rama.
The moments that, when I still my mind
Are ever-present.
Powerful.
Beautiful.
Real.

And so tonight
Another starry night
I close my eyes and hear eternity calling
Calling silently from within the spaces between the moments
Calling like the wind dancing playfully around the stars
Calling me with a light
So penetrating
So familiar
So inexplicably beautiful
That I cannot bear to breathe.
"Oh Rama," I whisper,
"Thank you for being with me all these years;
Thank you for being with me now."

And then there is joy
Joy so big
SO BIG!
That my heart wants to sing
And cry
And laugh
All at once:

"Eternity does everything perfectly!"
I see! I see!
There is only this moment
This moment!
Perfect
Shining
And Eternal.
Thank you, Rama.
